Most of us spend hours in front of the mirror, perfecting our look, doing our make-up, and experimenting with our hair, but is it all worth it?
A lot of us will say “I dress for myself” “I don’t care what anyone else thinks”, but we all know that a compliment or two (...especially off a good looking bloke) will make our day. The problem is, are we all missing the mark? We may love layers of make-up, a good old jumpsuit, over-sized sunglasses and sky scraper heels, but do men... You’re about to find out!
The Dressing Room researched on the internet, analysed various surveys, and most importantly we did a survey of our own, to find out what is it that we love to wear but men hate. The answer to this question is simply... a lot! We couldn’t believe the amount of men that went straight into a list of things they hated about our sense of style, and quite frankly a lot of their answers are shocking and I guarantee you you’ll either own or wear one of the things they hate!
So lets get to it..
Make-up
What girl doesn’t love endless amounts of make-up? Eyeliner, mascara, blusher, lip-gloss, foundation, false lashes... the list goes on, and on, and on. I dare you to find me 10 girls in a nightclub without fake eyelashes on; mission impossible! And we at The Dressing Room particularly love experimenting with bright coloured lipsticks, pinks, reds, plums - the fun is endless!
Unfortunately, most men don’t share the same love for our brightly coloured lips, dark smokey eyes, and tanned cheeks as we do. In fact they would much prefer it if we kept it all simple and natural; a light foundation, a little mascara, and a small amount of a light coloured lip-gloss... could life get anymore boring? Perhaps the fear of waking up next to a girl who looks like a monster without make-up on is too much to handle for these boys?
20-year-old, Dan Clark, expresses his views on false eyelashes:
Gladiator sandals
When it comes to high heels or flat shoes most men seem to be undecided, but one thing they are decided on is gladiator sandals...they hate them! The gladiator trend has been in fashion for a while now, and most girls own at least a pair or two, and whilst we may think we look amazing in them, most men simply don’t.
Playsuits/Jumpsuits
We feel that a playsuit or a jumpsuit is an essential addition to our summer wardrobe, it’s one of the seasons biggest trends. However, yet again, men don’t agree. Apparently we look like we are wearing a baby grow and shouldn’t be wearing them unless we are still in nappy’s...that’s us told!
Leggings
Finally, something we agree on! Ladies, we know you may be proud of your perk bottoms, but theres nothing flattering about a pair of tight, slightly see-through leggings, worn with a little crop top. We don’t want to see your bum wobbling around whilst we are doing a spot of shopping or going out for our dinner.. and surprisingly, men don’t want to see it either! Less is more girls, less is more!
Boots
I would estimate that over 95% of the female population have worn a pair of UGG’s, and if you haven’t then we salute for your individuality! Men believe they are called UGG’s for a reason, they’re UGG-LY.
Another thing a few men expressed a dislike for was high length boots tucked into jeans, the general feeling was that they are too much and look slightly over-the-top.
Geordie Stephen Richardson explains his thoughts towards this... oh and he also doesn’t like you women that try to dress young either... (ouch!).

Finishing off with one of my favourite things to wear; over-sized sunnies! There is nothing more I love then putting on my favourite pair of huge shades on a sunny day, it makes you feel glamourous and especially helps if you’re having a bad make-up day! But shockingly, a lot of men don’t like big sunglasses.
So, ladies I want to know, are you guilty of any of these ‘fashion faux pas’? And men, do you agree with what the other guys had to say?
