1) Stick to two or three colours maximum; no-one wants to look like the rainbow so stick to no more than three colours to ensure you don't over complicate things.

2) No prints; whilst attempting to achieve the perfect colour blocking look don't include any clothing with prints as this will distract from the look your trying to achieve and will make your outfit too fussy.

3) Nude or black accessories; You want the clothes to speak for themselves, you want them to stand out and look bright and fresh, therefore keep your accessories simple so you don't distract from this.

4) Wear with confidence; this is an important rule for any trend but it is essential for colour blocking as you're creating a bold statement, so keep your head held high and wear with pride.

5) Avoid detail; try to avoid frills and tassels or too many pockets as this will take away the impact of the overall look.

6) Try a ready-made colour block dress; if you're struggling to get the colour blocking trend right then start off by buying a dress that already contains the trend.

7) Don't be afraid; don't be scared that the colours you're wearing don't go or won't look right - that's the whole point.

8) Keep your make-up minimal; try not to use too many colours when doing your make-up or quite frankly you may end up looking like a clown.

9) Separate warm and cold; try and keep warm colours like pink and orange together and likewise use colder colours together like blues and greens.

10) Nude heels; if you're finding it difficult to decide what shoes to wear with you fashion fabulous colour blocking outfit then go for nude heels - they never fail.
